Landscape photographer and geoscientist Dr. Christian Klepp in an interview on the red sofa with host Ilka Petersen. They discussed his passion for Earth, scientific expeditions to untouched regions of our planet, and the importance of recognizing, respecting, and preserving the diversity of nature.
Through striking photographs, Klepp demonstrates that nature is far more than just a backdrop: it is origin, inspiration, and the very foundation of life. “My goal is to awaken respect and curiosity for our Earth and to protect its diversity,” says Christian Klepp. For over 30 years, he has traveled to remote landscapes, documented their beauty, and observed the changes brought by climate, weather, and human activity. He aims to share this knowledge so that everyone can understand the value of our planet, what is needed to preserve it, and what each individual can contribute.
Dr. Christian Klepp studied meteorology and geology at the University of Hamburg and earned his doctorate in geosciences. For more than two decades, he worked in international climate research and taught as a lecturer. His scientific expertise now directly informs his photographic work, blending precise knowledge with emotional expressiveness.
For three decades, the award-winning photographer has documented the great wonders of the Earth—landscapes shaped by elemental forces and at the same time highly sensitive to the changes our planet is undergoing. His photographs convey the breath of the Earth, its history, and its future.
With his new science and nature book “Wunderwerk Erde”, Klepp invites readers on an impressive journey to remote locations that tell the story of the Earth’s constant change, both internally and externally. Through lectures, books, and photographs, he calls on people to value and preserve the wonders of our planet—out of love for nature and responsibility for future generations.
